Sonic the Hedgehog movie review

When you need the first trailer Sonic the Hedgehog was released in 2019, fans were horrified by CGI Sonic’s Small beady eyes and human teeth — an uncanny valley horror. He had a face that asked a lot of a mum to love, let alone moviegoers. So Paramount pushed back the release date of the film and hired Tyson Hesse as an animator, art director for Sonic Mania Adventures, to lead the redesign. Not only did the animators go above and Fixing Sonic outside sounding more like his video game origins, but Should they have saved the movie sonic the hedgehog.

The new Sonic is So cute it almost compensates for a pretty generic plot and a human cast that play the roles of “heroic” and “bad” so straight, they could be extras on The Better Place. To rush off villains at his superspeed power, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) leaves his world to search through the magic portal rings himself on Earth in the small town of Green Hills. We find out his quick-talking personality is basically a result of 10 years of intense isolation, Should hide from the townspeople, and keep himself entertained by talking to himself. After causing the energy surge which shuts down the power of the town, the government sends Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) to investigate. Sonic partners with friendly sheriff Tom (James Marsden) and all grow a bromance in the manner recommended in movies, through a road trip and a bar fight, sonic the hedgehog.

Ultimately, sonic the hedgehog is a children’s movie that recognizes it maybe kids’ first introduction to the hedgehog, so it makes minimal references to the video game world he comes from there and spends more time referring to things they should get. Unfortunately, Such gags seem a couple of years too late, immediately dating themselves: there are also jokes about the unlimited pasta from Olive Garden. Sonic does the floss dance not once, but twice. They giggle about Vin Diesel in The Quick and the Furious. (Actually, this One's likely to stay relevant for as long as they remain to make FF movies, which is forever.)sonic the hedgehog.

The film shines when you remember that it's based on a video game, and there’s some genuinely fun stuff — like when Sonic uses his time-Stopping forces or the intricate Robotnik “evil-plotting” montage that's why you wonder why more films do not star bad guys with choreographed dance sequences. Carrey plays Robotnik like a villain in the movie he is, and it’s a true pleasure to see him in his element. And — spoilers ahead — the end credits mark a sequel with Tails and an even more unhinged Robotnik going full-on Eggman, sonic the hedgehog.

But As much of the film takes place in unscripted fashion city-Ville (comes in two flavors: small town and big concrete buildings ‘n streets), it’s hard not to go back to the lush world Emerald Hill Zone the movie showcased for maybe 30 seconds. I Wish it happened there instead. Sonic the Hedgehog might have gone from decent to big film not by bringing Sonic into the human world, but by Putting people in. Maybe we all should be grateful for the film was watchable at all. Sonic’s Progress depends on the likable character, and the redesigned Sonic is easy to love sonic the hedgehog.
